I like to read Stephen Hawking books, you expect them to be a hard read but he explains everything for the non-scientific reader.

I also LOVE Maggie Stievfater and a few others that aren't as major but I would read their stuff like Stephanie Meyer. OH! I can't forget James Patterson :)
