Do you think you're paying too much for games? It seems to me that they are constantly on the rise, you can now pay almost £50 for a standard edition game! I remember when £30 was expensive for a PS2 game!

Yeah. Over here, you could be paying at least $100 for a New Release game. Most often it's $120.
And they rarely go down. Mario games are infamous for their steady price of $80 for games like Mario Kart DS and all that.

I miss the old days where I only paid $20 for a Nintendo 64 game. Preowned, but great conditions.

I've just done a currency exchange on your currency to mine Deadpool and my god, that is way over the top for a game. Most new releases over here seem to be around the 95NZ$ mark and they do tend to go down after a month or so (At least where I am anyway) so maybe you should hop on over here!

I must say though, some new games are very overpriced and it really does annoy me. I do appreciate the fact that ALOT of work went into making the game but surely they would shift more and in the long run, make more money if they lowered it even a tiny bit?

As a game developer myself, I tend to disagree. Like movies these days, there's more and more content and work going into these projects, at higher and higher quality.
The average game takes 3 years with a staff of 100 employees to create. That's a lot of work, and on top of that they must hire dozens of playtesters to ensure it's balanced correctly and to check for bugs on projects increasingly saturated with content.
Prices are only going one way.

When you put it like that, the higher price makes sense. Of course, it's not cheap to produce a game when so many people are working on it. Maybe if the game developers bothered to put a section in the game or package showing all the people who worked on the project (like a group photo, etc) and some details, then maybe gamers could see why the prices are so much.

I completely agree, they are way to over priced. I can understand paying £50 for a limited edition game where you gets loads of extras with it however we are now paying £50 just for a game in a case which is pretty ridiculous. I really don't feel that this has helped alot of the gaming stores myself as so many are either just renting the games or waiting for them to either be available pre-owned or at a lower price because they are too high in price when first released.

You have a very good point here, everything has to be paid and accounted for. Who do you work for?

They are very overpriced especially when they first come out. But that is not going to change. I figure I will get my moneys worth out of the game if I play it enough so it does not really bother me.

I don't think the subject can ever be as simple as if it's too expensive or not as each games value will depend on the individual user.

Some people may get 15 hours out of a $100 game then others may be 400 hours so in this case if you get those 400 hours I would say it's not expensive at all where as if you only get those 15 then it's pretty damn expensive.

I feel like I am, but then again I totally understand from the point of the developers. It's costly and time consuming, it's only fair that they profit.

Yes, it's getting just ridiculous how expensive games are nowadays. I mean $60 for a console game and $35 for a handheld game? I think a reasonable price to have it would be $40 for a console game and $20 for a handheld game, anyone know why it's so expensive?

I can imagine in 10 years video games will be like $75...

Well they are what they are :) I hardly ever buy them when they are new. Usually it takes a few months for a average game to drop down to 20 area, that is when I buy it. If I buy it when it comes out, then I play it through and sell it, so I don't really lose money. I know some don't appreciate that, but that is how I roll. Game developers need to understand that I have put time and effort to that money that I use to buy a game. Just like they have put into making it :)

As technology develops, it will take more time to create a game as it needs to be very detailed and high quality. With that they need to purchase equipment and software suited to create these massive games. So I feel prices will always increase at the release of a game. But as time passes the price will depreciate.

I kind of think they are raising the prices too high especially for somes games that probably arent worth the money they are asking for. I understand 60 dollars for a brand new awesome game like Skyrim but for some others it is a different ball park.
