Unconfirmed reports claim that the upcoming Windows 8 operating system will allow users to play Xbox 360 games on their PCs.

According to InsiderIs sources, Xbox 360 on PC will have a subscription fee like Xbox Live, but online gaming will run on Windows Live Marketplace, meaning - at least initially - that PC users won't be able to compete against console owners.

The site suggests an additional revenue stream and the chance to extend the current generation hardware lifespan are behind the move.

Microsoft has yet to announce an official release date for Windows 8, or the full feature set for the operating system, so take this all with a large pinch of salt for now.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced plans to merge Xbox.com and Games For Windows Marketplace to create a one-stop-shop for players.

"Games For Windows Marketplace will fully transition over to Xbox.com," it said. "Now you can get all of your gaming needs in one place. It's convenient, it's concentrated, and it's a whole lot of great games."

This will be awesome! :D What do you guys think?

I already heard of this. It's quite unique but I won't be getting Windows 8. It's a unique idea and I'm sure a lot of people would take advantage of it. :D

Even if that's true, I won't get Windows 8 cause of just one thing: Metro.

It would be a dream come true if this ever happens, I'm a big Microsoft and therefore windows.
I'm running for almost 3 years on windows 7, never had a problem, hope win8 will be even better.

That means more changes and I will have to figure things out all over again so I don't love it. I tend to get a little crabby when I turn the Xbox on and the front screen is all different and you have to relearn how to use the system. I adapt though so I guess we will see what happens.

Haha you don't like the Metro style? I like the simplicity a lot but the only thing that's Metro is the start menu. Everything else is basically Windows 7 again.

At least that's how it was when I had the consumer preview.

Metro means no start menu. No start menu means no go for me, cause that shut down button will be way harder to get to.

I own windows 8, and was unaware of this. I think it would be awesome, and if it is implemented you should link to a video explaining how. I'd love to be able to do this, as once again, it would be amazing!

Actually the shutdown button on windows 8 is as easy as CTR ALT DEL, if that's what you're talking about. Metro I don't think is bad at all.

I also heard of it, but haven't tried it till now, because i am happy with windows 7 and don't wanna upgrade to windows 8 for just the Xbox feature. Although i don't like Windows 8 appearance.

This is news to me. :o The one good thing about windows 8. I doubt I'll be upgrading to windows 8 any time soon, or even ever, so this won't really affect me anyway. I don't like the look of Windows 8 at all. Being able to play Xbox games on PC does sound pretty cool though.
