Visuals & Graphics..
The visuals and graphics in this game are pretty good. There’s quite often the buggy light source that messes up shadows but overall, it’s pulled off really good.

The small detail that is shown on the majority of the NPC’s (Non-Playable Characters) is quite defined and precise. I’m not saying that you’ll be able to see the fine lines in the clothing/armour when you zoom in real close to an enemy or you can see the bullet wounds or blood seeping from a fallen enemy, but it’s nice and defined enough so you know instantly who you’re pointing your gun at.

There is quite a bit of fantastic visual scenery to be found in Mass Effect II. Whether it’s an overgrown foliage areas to explore that have intergrated into a factory-like area or a large shot of an icy covered planet with half covered debris of a crashed ship, the graphics really do take my breath away.
Visuals & Graphics Rating: 9.5/10

Achievement Difficulty..
The achievements in Mass Effect are never hard to complete. About 5 or more of them can be taken in down in one playthrough, specifically the first playthrough. The other ones are never too hard to complete with a thorough playthrough which leaves you with plenty of time to do other things such as playing it through. Again!
Achievement Difficulty Rating: 9/10

Story Mode / Campaign Difficulty..
The storyline is… predictable but also not in a way? Commander Shepard is brought back to life by a private military group known as Cerberus who doesn’t have the best reputation around in the galaxy. And the Earth is in danger and you’re sent out to save it by doing this blah, blah, blah…
The main story driven plot is predictable and over-done. How many times can our galaxy be under threat by aliens? Do we paint a target on our planet and advertise it heavily in Galactic News Today? Or are we really that annoying and high and mighty that every other creature wants to see us purged from the known universe? I guess it’s just been recycled one too many times.

The campaign is not too difficult as it has you going around from planet to planet, system to system and gather up the main members of your crew. This includes many favourites from the first one such as Garrus and… Well, just Garrus, actually. The other characters do make an appearance here and there but not as joinable members in your little suicide squad. (It certainly does say something about Garrus though.
Spoiler:
The turian takes a missile to the face and still comes with for the suicide squad. What a legend.
And if you’re into the romancing of a character, a little more is needed to complete the romancing but overall, the missions aren’t hard or difficult. And very short usually which is almost disappointing if you were looking for a bit more depth, but great if you want to get through as much as you can in one day.
Story Mode / Campaign Difficulty Rating: 9.5/10

Game Depth & Navigation Details..
Depth in this game is… not as deep as you’d expect. Perhaps a few more twists than depth located in the storyline aspect of the game. But the wide environments and complexity of the galaxy does make up for it. I must admit I have been sucked into the game on more than one occasion and had about 4 hours slip past me without realizing it.

Navigation is only sticky around the weapons and the ability selection screen and the cover system.
Weapons and abilities are chosen through a half wheel weapon selection screen and its very nice how you’re able to carry an assortment of weapons with you with room for a possible upgrade in the future, but choosing them can be quite difficult. Because it can be a bit overly precise and sensitive at times, choosing a weapon can sometimes end up being the wrong type of weapon being chosen for the situation and you may have to spend more precious seconds to quickly swap another gun into the fray in which case may cause to suffer a bit of damage. The nice part is that they do pause gameplay for this but on the downside, it does break the continuity of the gameplay.
And although it is made less sensitive for the abilities, since they all share the same cooldown does make it annoying if you happen to misuse an ability.

Cover of course will probably never be perfect. It’s quite similar to the Army of Two style of cover mechanics in which when you approach cover, you can press a button to lock yourself into it. The only downside to this as there is no blind shooting. You can only pop up when you hold/toggle the aim mode which sticks your vision down the barrel of the gun. This causes Commander Shepard to stand up in order to fire and if you happen to be in the face of a big ugly chromatic mech, then you can expect no less than a greeting of thermal rounds to the face.
Storyline Depth & Navigation Details Rating: 8.4/10

Value For Money..
This game has fantastic value for money (especially as it’s only about $19 on Amazon!) as there is a great replay factor in it. And when you replay, you keep all your current weapons and abilities (provided you import your character into your new game) which does make the tougher seeming boss fights in your first playthrough a breeze to get past. However, this does make things a little less challenging throughout. But all the more time to focus on those ship upgrades!
Value For Money Rating: 9/10

Ratings Round-Up..
Visuals & Graphics: 9.5/10
Achievement Difficulty: 9/10
Story Mode / Campaign Difficulty: 9.5/10
Game Depth & Navigation Details: 8.4/10
Value For Money: 9/10

Overall Rating: 45.4/50

I love this line "Do we paint a target on our planet and advertise it heavily in Galactic News Today" because its so true xD its like no other planet is attacked, except for earth...I might ask the question are we the big evil in the universe and aliens the good ones XD ?

At least someone else agrees with me. And it does seem like we're the greater evil. We've been the constant attention of alien attacks after all. :P

And I'm glad you enjoyed the review.

Strange how you reviewed the second one instead of the third one but great review. :D I agree on saying that the game provides so much for its value right now but if I were to buy ME, I'd get the new third one.

I think were I to review the third one, I'd put too many spoilers into it. But in the not-so distant future, perhaps I will think up a better-not-so-spoilery review and chuck that up. :P

I definitely agree that this is a great value. The game is extremely long and offers good replayability. Waiting a few years for a game to become cheaper always has its benefits.

I personally loved this game. I loved the first game as well, and was glad I bought this game too. Sometimes you get games that are not as good as the first one but for me that was not really the case.

I agree with you there. Dragon Age II was a disappointment to Dragon Age: Origins. I feel they put a bit too much focus on the character's vocal input than the overarching story.

But Mass Effect II was way better than Mass Effect I. Although, there were some elements of Mass Effect I that I would've rather it had in it than others (mainly a character focus) I still think it was pretty good. It was my favourite game for about 2 or 3 weeks I believe.

That was a really good review, but quite a high score for not that good of a game. I felt it was good, but an A-? Woah. Although, I can see why this would get such a high score when you look at the joke that was the sequel, Mass Effect 3. :@

Yeah, Mass Effect III was not worthy to be a sequel to Mass Effect II and in all honesty, I do prefer ME II to ME III. But I liked how they brought back Ashley Williams in ME III though. 8-)

Mass Effect II had issues here and there, but I loved the storyline and the combat. I brought it only because I was in the mood for an RPG since I was disappointed by Dragon Age II, but I never knew that it'd grow on me so much.

Mass Effect III only seems like a let down due to the press release, I think. They were pressured for time and I think they did what anyone does in that instance and that's copy and pasting. Which more or less killed the game. They had great ideas and executed them great in some areas, but its not balanced enough to make it outstanding.

I loved the first one which unfortunately, I was unable to finish do some unforseen circumstances.
I thought your review of the game was quite in depth. I just had one quirp though. Your comment here:
Quote:
Achievement Difficulty..

You were speaking like the achievements in this game were pretty much handed out like candy. If that is how it actually takes place then, why a 9/10? It sounds to me like it would be more of a 5 or a 8 at most.
Personally, I like games that you have to work at to earn your achievements. (although those are hard to come by) I was just wondering about this part.
Other than that I thought you were pretty thorough with the game.

Oh yeah, and I didn't open the spoiler because I still want to get the game! :P

I rank achievements on how hard they are to get, how many you can score in a playthrough, time consumed while hunting for them and how many of them there are to get. Ultimately, the easier and how many you can achieve in one playthrough gave it a better score since the others were gain in a second playthrough and didn't require some online multiplayer aspect or anything like that.
But I do agree with working for achievements. Except I'm not too much of a Achievement Hunter.

And its good you didn't open the spoiler. It's a great game and you deserve to play through it all before you see that.

Well put, my friend. And yeah, I enjoyed seeing her as well. ;)

Hopefully if they plan for a fourth they'll actually spend their time on it, I think there's plenty of potential.

Sounds like it must be a pretty good game if it has such a high rating. I wonder if there is ever 50/50s
